About SMWCW

Mission

The Sugarmill Woods Crime Watch (SMWCW)  is sponsored by the Citrus County Sheriff's Office.  It's purpose is to provide a constant law enforcement presence in the community and it's environ, and to serve as the local eyes and ears of the Sheriff's Office.

  Membership

Any resident of the community (SMW or Southern Woods) and Citrus County, of good moral character and no serious criminal record, capable of performing the required duties, may become a member.

Current membership totals over one-hundred (100).  Many members are of a seasonal nature; many drop out for health reasons making the search for new members an ongoing task.

Structure

The affairs of the SMWCW are administered by the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Captain.  All are elected by the full membership on a biennial basis. These officers plus up to seven (7) squad leaders - one for each day of the week we patrol - serve as the executive board, which is the governing body of the organization.

The President and Captain oversee all day-to-day activities and are the liaison with the Sheriff's Office.

The squad leaders maintain weekly driver schedule assignments and keep their drivers aware of new developments and/or information.

  Operations

The Crime Watch vehicle, supplied and maintained by the Sheriff's Office, is operated daily.  Drivers work two (2) hour shifts on a day and time of their preference, if available.

A full membership meeting is held on the second Tuesday of every month, excluding summer months, at the Homosassa library.
